The road to the peace should go through the Arab and international legitimacy and initiatives, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' spokesman said Thursday as Abbas started meeting with his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush.
"An independent Palestinian statehood must come into being and east Jerusalem must be the capital of the upcoming statehood and prisoners must be released... this is the way and these are our only hopes," the spokesman, Nabil Abu Rdineh, told Voice of Palestine radio.
President Bush's convoy went through West Bank, coming from Jerusalem, and a meeting between Bush and Abbas started in Ramallah city.
"The most important thing now is the meeting and what it will come up with," Abu Rdineh added.
The meeting will focus on the U.S.-hosted peace conference, which was held in November last year, and the Road Map peace plan which seeks a solution based on two states.
"Our message to the American President is to build pressure on the Israeli government in order not to loose time and chance of creating the Palestinian statehood," Abu Rdineh said, referring to Bush's promise to work hard for creating the statehood before his term at the Whit House ends.
