The United States condemned on Thursday a suicide bomb attack in Lahore, the second largest city in Pakistan, that has killed more than 20 people and wounded many others.
"We condemn this act of violence and any attempts to subvert the democratic process in Pakistan prior to elections," U.S. National Security Council spokeswoman Katherine Starr said.
It was reported that the latest suicide attack in Pakistan targeted policemen. Up to 60 people, many of them police officers, were rushed to hospital after the explosion.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Thursday's blast came two weeks after Pakistan People's Party leader Benazir Bhutto was killed in a suicide attack after addressing an election rally in Rawalpindi, also in Punjab province.
