Some 25 Tamil Tiger rebels have been killed in clashes with government troops in Sri Lanka's northern province, defense officials said Friday.

15 of them were killed in Thursday's fighting while 10 were killed on Friday. The fighting took place in the northern Jaffna peninsula's Muhamalai areas and Mannar district.

Meanwhile the Airforce said that fighter bombers carried out air raids on a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) sea Tiger wing facility at Alampil in the northern Mullaithivu district Friday morning around 8.45 a.m. local time (0315 GMT).

"The pilots have reported targets were taken successfully ", an official said.

Violence in the island's armed conflict set to blow into full scale war after the government on January 2 announced that they would be unilaterally abrogating on January 16, the Norwegian backed ceasefire agreement.
