Russia is satisfied with the release of two Colombian hostages and calls for an early settlement of the conflict between the Colombian government and rebels, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"(The release) is part of an international humanitarian operation conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross and several Latin American countries, in particular, Venezuela," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

"We would like to see an immediate release of all the other hostages kept by Colombian rebels, and an early settlement of the internal conflict in the country," the ministry said.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) handed over Thursday Clara Rojas and former legislator Consuelo Gonzalez to an international humanitarian mission in jungles of Colombia.

Rojas was an aide to presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, who is still in FARC captivity. They were kidnapped in February 2002 when campaigning in the country.

FARC guerillas had earlier pledged to free Rojas together with her son Emmanuel, who was born during her captivity. The boy was later found in an orphanage in Bogota.

Gonzalez, a former congresswoman, was abducted in September 2001.

The international community demanded the release of all the other prisoners held by FARC and said it favors a prompt ending to the internal armed conflict that has lasted almost half a century.

The FARC is holding 46 high-profile hostages, hoping to swap them for about 500 jailed rebels.
