Two Dutch soldiers were killed in southern Afghanistan Saturday during an attack from "opposing militant forces," the Dutch Defense Ministry said early Sunday.
The soldiers were attacked and killed near their base in Uruzgan province, the ministry said in a statement.
The two were on a mission with hundreds of Dutch and Afghan troops to better map out the Dutch area of operations.
In November, the Dutch government decided to prolong its military presence in Afghanistan by two years to 2010. Altogether 14 Dutch soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.
At present, some 1,600 Dutch soldiers are deployed in the country as part of the NATO-led international security force. Source:Xinhua
