The Palestinian Central Council (PCC) of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) convened in the city of Ramallah on Sunday evening.

The PCC is the highest Palestinian institution that links the PLO executive committee and the Palestinian National Council (PNC)or the PLO parliament in exile.

Salim al-Za'noon, speaker of the PNC, inaugurated the meeting at al-Muqata'a, President Mahmoud Abbas' headquarters, in the presence of Abbas and 87 out of 120 PCC members.

"We call on Hamas movement to admit that it committed a mistake when it took control of the Gaza Strip. We believe that it should end this coup before we have any dialogue," said al-Za'noon.

In mid June, Hamas militants ousted the security forces loyal to President Abbas and forcibly took control of the Gaza Strip. Abbas conditioned the resumption of dialogue with Hamas on that it ends its grip on Gaza.

Al-Za'noon also slammed several Islamic and radical left-wing parties and factions based in the Syrian capital of Damascus, saying that they were staging a conference next week to make the PLO invalid.

"There is a conspiracy to annul Palestine Liberation Organization and there are attempts to find an alternative to it, mainly the conference that will be held in Damascus next week," he said.
