Cuban leader Fidel Castro is healthy enough to reclaim his political role, said Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva after visiting Castro on Tuesday.

"I think Fidel will soon assume his political role in Cuba, his historic role in Cuba and the globalized world, " Lula said at Havana's international airport after a 24-hour visit.

During his visit, The Brazilian president held talks with Castro and offered the nation millions of dollars in credit.

Castro had led Cuba since a 1959 revolution and temporarily handed power to his younger brother Raul Castro in July 2006 because of a life-threatening intestinal operation.

However, he has never lost his influence over political affairs in the country.
