The U.S. House of Representatives adopted unanimously on Wednesday a resolution condemning the assassination of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and reaffirming American commitment to helping the country beat terrorism and promote democracy.
"The United States and the rest of the international community need to do all we can to promote and support Pakistan's economic, social, and political development to prevent Pakistan from becoming a failed state," said Democratic lawmaker Gary Ackerman, who proposed the bill.
Bhutto was killed on Dec. 27 in a suicide attack during her election rally in Rawalpindi, some 30 km south of capital Islamabad. The United States has strongly condemned the assassination.
