Visiting Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa was trying to arrange a meeting between two rival Lebanese leaders, local An Nahar daily reported on Thursday.

The main objective of Moussa's mission was an attempt to get Free Patriotic Movement leader Gen. Michel Aoun and parliament majority leader Saad Hariri together, a source close to Berri was quoted as saying.

The source said that if Moussa succeeded in getting the two warring leaders together, then there would be no need for a broad inter-Lebanese dialogue.

But if his bid failed, the Arab League chief would then go ahead with the prospect of convening national dialogue in parliament, the source said.

Moussa, arrived Beirut on Wednesday, urged the Lebanese to "hope for the best, the best you will find."

"We will do our best (to help solving the crisis)," Moussa told reporters after his meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

The visit of Moussa to Beirut is the second within a week. In his first visit, which lasted four days, he was not able to convince the two Lebanese parties to accept an Arab plan which was endorsed in Cairo on Jan. 6.

The three-point plan aimed at immediately electing Lebanese Army Commander General Michel Suleiman as Lebanese president and proceeding to forming a government of national unity and drafting a new electoral law.

Lebanese presidential seat has been vacant since former President Emile Lahoud ended his term on Nov. 24, and the sharply divided Lebanese parliament has delayed the elections for twelve times without a consensus.

Is 'Laowai' a negative term?
