Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin urged for continuing the negotiations for a legitimate solution to the future status of Serbia's breakaway province of Kosovo, local media reported Friday.
Putin, who paid a two-day official visit to Bulgaria, said at a joint press conference with his Bulgarian counterpart Georgi Parvanov that a unilateral solution to the issue of the future status of Kosovo is inadequate, since the settlement should be international.
"A compromise solution should be found to suit both the Albanian and Serbian part of the population," Putin said.
Parvanov expressed Bulgaria's position that it is important that the Kosovo issue does not create a dividing line between the member states of the European Union.
"We are aware, and have warned repeatedly, of the risks of a forced decision about Kosovo," Parvanov said.
The Bulgarian president recalled the Athens meeting of the foreign ministers of Bulgaria, Romania and Greece at the end of last December, when they warned against tying Serbia's EU prospects to the Kosovo issue. Source: Xinhua
