Georgia will hold parliamentary elections in May this year, Acting Parliament Speaker Mikhail Machavariani said in capital Tbilisi on Friday.

The Georgian Central Elections Commission (CEC) said in its official report on Friday that an affirmative answer was given by 79.74 percent to a Jan. 5 referendum for an early parliamentary elections this spring. No date has been given.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili antedated in November the presidential elections from autumn to Jan. 5 and said the time for parliamentary elections would be decided by referendum.
