Thailand's People Power Party (PPP) would nominate its deputy leader Yongyuth Tiyapairat as the House Speaker, news group The Nation quoted PPP leading member as saying on Sunday.

PPP's deputy leader Sompong Amornwiwat was quoted as saying that the party was also considering candidates for Yongyuth's deputies.

Meanwhile, following a PPP party executive meeting on Sunday, parliament member Chaowarin Latthasaksiri said the five coalition partners would not seek deputy speaker posts.

The PPP and five small parties on Saturday announced a coalition with a total 315 of the 480-seat parliament, leaving the Democrat Party the only opposition in the lower house.

The first parliamentary session will be held on Monday and during its meetings on Tuesday and Friday, the parliament members are expected to elect the Speaker and the Prime Minister respectively.
