Japan wants to use the Malaysian Peacekeeping Training Center (MPTC) at Port Dickson, central state of Negeri Sembilan, as a model to build a similar center in Tokyo.

Malaysian deputy Defense Minister Zainal Abidin Zin said this after visiting Japanese deputy Defense Minister Kohel Maksuda called at the Malaysian defense ministry on Monday.

"Maksuda showed interest in MPTC and said Japan plans to set upa similar center in Tokyo.

"He wanted to learn how Malaysia managed to make MPTC famous worldwide," Malaysian national news agency Bernama quoted Zainal Abidin as saying.

Located at Telok Kemang, Port Dickson, MPTC is a joint service organization that was given the function to provide personnel of the Armed Forces and other agencies with training and knowledge on Peace Support and Peace Keeping Operation to enable them to function in peacekeeping mission.

Zainal Abidin said they also discussed the possibility of student exchange, aimed at expanding their knowledge in defense.

Malaysia also asked Japan to supply lecturers to teach Japanese language at the National Defense University of Malaysia.
