Libya's foreign ministry Monday presented an urgent note to the Arab League (AL) calling on its member states to take a firm stand and help lift the blockade Israel imposed on Palestinians.

The note calls for an urgent meeting of AL foreign ministers and urged concrete measures to end the blockade rather than issuing resolutions and statements that will never be put into action.

The note says that an earlier AL resolution must be carried out to open passage to the Gaza Strip to allow in food, medicine and fuel.

The note urges the Arab League to contact influence-wielding countries to help stop Israel's blockade and calls for more humanitarian aid to the Palestinians from the Arab world and non-governmental organizations.

On Jan. 18, Israel completely sealed the border with Gaza, cutting supplies to the already-impoverished area, including humanitarian aid materials provided by some international organizations. Israel said the blockade was in response to rocket attacks from Gaza.
