Bolivian President Evo Morales declared a state of emergency Monday in nine provinces over flooding, according to reports from La Paz.
He decreed an order calling on relevant departments to carry out rescue work to fight the disaster, safeguard people's lives and property and provide medical services and assistance to victims.
The Bolivian Civil Defense Agency said in a statement that 18 people had been killed and about 20,000 families were affected by flooding triggered by heavy rains.
