Mexican police have arrested 10 people linked to drug trafficker Hector Alfredo Beltran Leyva, a senior figure in the Sinaloa Cartel organized crime syndicate, the nation's Public Security Ministry said in a Tuesday statement.
Officers hit two homes in Mexico City neighborhoods Guadalupe Inn and Romero de Terreros in the early hours of Tuesday, seizing long-range weapons.
The operation came 24 hours after Hector Alfredo Beltran's arrest in Culiacan, capital of western Mexico state Sinaloa. Beltran was immediately turned over to the Special Attorney General's Office for Organized Crime Investigation.
Security forces have arrested more than 70 people linked to organized crime and drug trafficking in the first three weeks of 2008, and seized large numbers of weapons and ammunition.
The Ministry said it would give more details of the operation and its significance within a few hours.
