A Syrian official on Tuesday denied allegations of some media reports that the Syrian customs has prevented trucks loaded with food from crossing border checkpoints into Lebanon, the official SANA news agency reported.

"These news reports are incorrect and are nothing more than fabrications," Director General of Customs Nabil al-Siori was quoted as saying in a statement, affirming that the movement of trucks between Syria and Lebanon was normal.

"The Syrian customs has never issued instructions for preventing entry of these trucks into Lebanon," Siori added.

The Lebanese newspaper An Nahar reported on Tuesday that Syria has imposed a blockade of food supplies on Lebanon as Syrian customs authorities informed all border checkpoints of their decision to prevent trucks and vehicles carrying food supplies from crossing into Lebanon as of 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) Monday.
