Calm is needed in the face of the consequences from the financial crisis in the United States, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Tuesday during his visit to the southwestern city of Pau.
"I think that calm is needed in face of the consequences of the financial crisis which takes place in the United States," he said.
He added: "Facing the crisis, we should ensure transparency in the international financial system."
The French leader made the comments when responding to a question about the current stock market turmoil.
"I will be going to London to be with (British Prime Minister) Gordon Brown and (German Chancellor) Angela Merkel to make some suggestions on how to bring about this transparency and to bring order to financial capitalism, because a large part of this is due to speculative activities to the detriment of business," said he.
Sarkozy will visit London on Jan. 29. to attend a meeting called by Brown to discuss the world economic situation.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso will also take part in the meeting. Source: Xinhua
