French government budget deficit was 38.4 billion euros (55.61 billion U.S. dollars) in 2007, close to the revised forecast of 38.3 billion euros (55.46 billion dollars) in November, the Budget Ministry announced on Tuesday.
If including the income from the sale of 3.7-billion-euro (5.36-billion-dollar) of the French state's stake in power giant Electricite de France, the budget deficit totaled 34.4 billion euros (49.82 billion dollars).
The budget deficit represented 2.1 percent of the GDP, down from 2.2 percent in 2006 and 2.5 percent in 2005.
The French government debt increased from 867.59 billion euros (1,256.47 billion dollars) in 2006 to 920.72 billion euros (1,333.41 billion dollars) in 2007.
Tax revenues in 2007 were 266.7 billion euros (386.24 billion dollars), up one billion euros (1.45 billion dollars) from the amount foreseen in the initial budget for the year, but 500 million euros (724.11 million dollars) below a subsequently revised budget projection, the ministry said.
