South American Foreign Ministers on Sunday began a two-day closed-door meeting seeking to craft the Foundation Treaty of the South American Union of Nations or Unasur, their 10th meeting in the series.
Colombia's Foreign Minister Fernando Araujo opened the meeting with a speech describing large obstacles in the way of the proposed treaty.
The meeting will focus on drafting the treaty, whose objective is consolidating political, economic, energy and social union in the subcontinent.
Foreign ministers of seven of South America's 12 nations including those from Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela attend the meeting.
Colombia had originally agreed to host the third of the Unasur Presidents meeting but the organization called for a postponement at November's meeting in Chile's capital Santiago. Source: Xinhua
