Two policemen and two suspected militants were killed in cross firings in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi on Tuesday, the News Network International news agency reported.
The firing started when police signaled a car to stop but gunmen in the vehicle started firing at the police, injuring a deputy superintendent police Asghar Dharey who later died in hospital, said the report.
The gunmen later took shelter in a nearby three-story building at Landhi locality of the city and started firing at the police men, killing a police constable.
Two gunmen, who are stated to be members of the banned group "Jundullah" were also killed and two others were injured.
Seven police men were also injured in the exchange of fires, NNI quoted hospital sources said.
Witnesses said that the militants also threw a hand grenade at a police van, destroying it.
Paramilitary rangers were called in to back up policemen and they finally entered gunmen's hideout. The militants used rockets and automatic weapons to launch attack, witnesses said. Source: Xinhua
