Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said on Wednesday that she plans to seek higher fee for Russian natural gas transit to Europe during her visit to Moscow in February.

"As we are moving to a market price (for natural gas), we should move toward a market price for the transit of gas," Tymoshenko told a news conference in Kiev.

Tymoshenko said she was going to raise "a wide range of problems" during her visit to Russia scheduled for Feb. 21-22, including the issue of "stable and predictable gas supplies for Ukraine."

Russia currently sells its natural gas at the price of 179.5 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic meters for Ukraine, compared to 130 dollars in 2006. On the other hand, Ukraine charges Russia 1.7 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters of gas per 100 kilometers of transit, almost unchanged compared to 1.60 dollars last year.
