Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday urged the country's top security body, the Federal Security Service (FSB), to take tangible measures to secure the Winter Olympic Games 2014 in its Black Sea resort Sochi.

"It is necessary to create a multi-layer and effective system of protection of the participants and guests of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2014 from possible threats," Itar-Tass news agency quoted the head of state as saying.

Sochi won the bidding and become host city of the Games last summer.
