Mexico's Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that former Guatemalan president Alfonso Portillo be sent to his home country to face charges of fraud.
The court rejected an injunction against the extradition, but Portillo's lawyer said the court ruling meant no immediate danger of extradition for his client, as other issues related to the extradition remained unresolved.
Portillo, who currently works in Mexico as a financial adviser, served as Guatemalan president from 2000 to 2004. He is accused of allocating some 15 million U.S. dollars to the country's Defense Department, and most of the money was allegely pocketed by officials close to him.
