U.S. President George W. Bush reiterated his warning on Thursday that a hasty military pullout from Iraq would convince the extremists and Iran that the United States is a "paper tiger."
Addressing a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bush said that "Failure in Iraq would embolden the extremists. Failure in Iraq would say to thugs and killers, the United States is a paper tiger."
Bush said that some 20,000 American soldiers were expected to come home by July, but he also emphasized that "any further troop reductions will be based upon commanders and conditions."
"I will be making decisions based upon success in Iraq," he added.
In his interview with NBC television on Jan. 11, Bush said that U.S.-led forces "could easily" stay in Iraq for 10 years or more.
