U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has raised 32 million U.S. dollars in January, allowing him a boosted campaign team and wider reach to voters before a full-scale race on "Super Tuesday," his campaigner said on Thursday.
According to Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, about 170,000 new donors have contributed to the African-American candidate's bid for the White House, adding to 650,000 the total number of donors.
The fund raised in the single month of January, which will be all used for primary, was equal to the total of the campaign's best three-month fundraising period in 2007, Plouffe told reporters.
"We think that the strength of our financial position and the number of donors does speak to financial sustainability if it ends up going through March and April," he said. "We think we will have the financial resources to conduct vigorous campaigns in the states to come."
Illinois Senator Obama and New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton are facing a serious test on Feb. 5 when more than 20 states will hold primaries and caucuses.
About 20 of the "Super Tuesday" states are witnessing Obama's advertisement and Clinton is airing her messages in 12 states.
The two front-runners have been leading the polls and also fundraising contest with more than 100 million dollars raised in 2007.
