Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai strongly condemned the bloody twin suicide attacks that left seven dead and wounded nearly two dozen others on Thursday, a statement released by Afghan Presidency said.

"These are the coward acts of terrorists who want to kill our people and sabotage peace in this country," the statement added.

In the first attack carried out against a mini-bus of Afghanistan National Army (ANA) in the morning rush hour Thursday, one person was killed and four others including an army officer were injured.

The second suicide bombing occurred inside a mosque in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of the troubled southern Helmand province, in the afternoon. It claimed the lives of six persons including deputy to province governor and injured 18 others.

Taliban militants who staged a violent comeback three years ago have claimed responsibility for both the bloody bombings.

Afghan president in the statement also expressed his condolences to families of the victims.

The year of 2007 was the deadliest one since the collapse of Taliban regime in late 2001 as more than 6,000 had been killed. However, observers predict more Taliban violence mostly in the shape of roadside and suicide bombings in 2008.
