A total of five people were killed in clashes between policemen and militants in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, News Network International (NNI) news agency reported.
The police raided a house near a small village called Bakhshaliin North West Frontier Province early Saturday morning, triggering clashes with militants, said the NNI report.
A Station House Officer Ashfaq Khan and Head Constable Faizullah Khan were killed and two other policemen were injured infighting that continued for over five hours.
Anti-terrorism police were summoned from Peshawar who used rocket launchers to blow up walls of the house and later dynamited rooms inside the building, leaving three suspects dead.
The suspects had earlier held women and children hostage inside the compound to use them as human shields.
Police said that the militants were wanted in several bomb blasts and attacks on music CD shops and firing on provincial health minister last month, who escaped unhurt in the attack. Source: Xinhua
