Gunmen shoot dead police officer in W Baghdad |

Unknown gunmen assassinated a senior police officer and wounded two others in western Baghdad on Sunday, an Interior Ministry source said.
"Lieut. Col. Ahmed Ibrahim was killed and two lieutenants were wounded when gunmen showered their car with bullets near the 14th Ramadhan intersection in the Mansour neighborhood," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Insurgents often attack Iraqi security forces, accusing them of collaborating with the U.S. troops.
Meanwhile, the source said that the police patrols picked up five unidentified bodies in different parts of Baghdad during the past 24 hours.
Violence and daily gruesome finding of unidentified bodies continue in Baghdad after the U.S. and Iraqi officials announced a steep drop of violence as a result of a major security plan aimed at checking the insurgency and sectarian strife.
