Gaza-based Palestinian militants shelled southern Israel communities with makeshift missiles on Monday following a brief calmness, militant groups said.

The Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement said in a press release that its militants fired two home-made rockets into southern Israeli town Sderot. "The operation was in response to the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and West Bank," said the statement.

In the West Bank city of Jenin, Israeli forces killed two Jihad gunmen and wounded a third earlier in the morning.

Meanwhile, the national resistance brigades, the military wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), fired a mortar shell at a closed commercial crossing in the southeastern Gaza Strip.

Israeli media reported that four rockets landed in Sderot in the Western Negev, adding that the rockets caused no casualties ordamage.
