Several people were injured when unidentified men fired at the activists of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in the southern city of Karachi Monday, a party leader said.
Talking to the private Geo TV, PPP leader Nabeel Gabol condemned the incident and said that such events could not undermine the party's resolve.
"We will remain calm and peaceful and defeat our opponents with the power of vote on Feb. 18," he added.
Gabol, also a candidate for the National Assembly seat, said that firing started when he was addressing the rally at the Lyari locality of the city.
He did not blame any group for the firing but said that "the gunmen were outsiders and did not belong to the area".
He said some of his party activists received bullets and were admitted in two hospitals.
Gabol denied reports that he was injured in the firing and said that he was safe and visited injured supporters at two hospitals.
He demanded immediate arrest of the people involved in the incident.
