The majority of Norwegians support their country's participation in NATO's military operations in Afghanistan, according to an opinion poll published on Tuesday.
The survey, made by Norstat for the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, showed that 57 percent of those polled said they support Norway's military presence in Afghanistan, while 32 percent are opposed to the military involvement, according to reports reaching here form Oslo.
However, even among those who said they support Norway's military involvement in Afghanistan, only 45 percent believed NATO could contribute to peace, while 38 percent did not.
The survey was conducted last month after the terrorist attack on a Kabul hotel, in which a Norwegian journalist was killed and a Norwegian Foreign Office official was seriously injured.
Norway has about 500 soldiers deployed in Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere said after the attack that Norway would maintain its military presence in Afghanistan. Source: Xinhua
