The top U.S. envoy at the six-party talks, Christopher Hill, said Wednesday most of the nuclear disablement of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have been completed.
"Most of the agreed disablement tasks at the three core facilities have been completed," Hill said at a Senate hearing.
Nonetheless, Hill urged the DPRK to fully declare its nuclear programs and activities.
"We intend to ensure that Pyongyang lives up to the word by submitting to the Chinese chair as soon as possible a declaration that is in fact complete and correct," Hill said.
The six-party talks held in Beijing in February last year reached a nuclear deal, in which the DPRK agreed to disable its nuclear reactor and declare all nuclear programs and facilities by the end of last year to pave the way for dismantlement. However, the DPRK missed the deadline, although there was reported progress in its nuclear declaration.
The United States has stressed that the DPRK will not be taken off the list of "state sponsors of terrorism" until it has made a full declaration of its nuclear activities.
