The Japanese Foreign Ministry building in Tokyo was attacked by a Molotov cocktail late afternoon Wednesday, according to Japanese media.

A man looked to be in his late 20s climbed over a fence to enter the ministry compound, got close to the main entrance of the ministry building, and threw the fire bomb at the building around 6:40 p.m. (0940 GMT), police officers and guards said.

The man then committed suicide by stabbing himself in the abdomen with a 20-centimeter kitchen knife. He was taken to hospital shortly after.

The attack did not cause serious damage to the building, nor did it hurt others, police said, adding that they were investigating the suspect's motive for doing so.
