Moscow hails the willingness of the Polish government to maintain friendly relations with Russia and not to dramatize existing differences, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said on Wednesday.
"I would like to stress that Russia has always wanted to maintain normal good neighborly relations with Poland, without dramatizing existing differences and always willing to find a constructive solution to outstanding issues," Kamynin was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.
"We welcome the reciprocal preparedness for this stated by Donald Tusk's government and hope that pragmatism, mutual benefit and respect of each other's interests will encourage Russia and Poland to develop further their relations," he said.
"Poland ranks among Russia's leading commercial partners in Central and Eastern Europe," Kamynin said. "The preliminary figures of last year show that trade turnover between the two countries was record high in 2007, adding up to approximately 17 billion U.S. dollars, he said.
"At the same time, the structure of the Russian-Polish trade does not meet the modern standards and opportunities. Efforts must be made by both parties in order to improve the terms for mutual investment and to start preparing a perspective agenda for economic cooperation," Kamynin said.
