Eight people were taken to hospital for gas inhalation Friday morning after being found in the back of a chemical tanker from Germany, London police said.
They were discovered when the tanker driver stopped to check his load, a powdered carbon-based chemical that could create a kind of irritant gas, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
Emergency services were sent to the scene, including an air ambulance, four ambulances and a fast response car.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said the discovery was made in southeast London. Fire crews set up a 100-metre cordon and closed the road while examining the tanker.
