Early voting to elect a new Russian president has already begun in the country's remote and hard-to-reach areas, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Saturday.
Helicopters with election commission members aboard flew out Saturday for Russia's far eastern Khabarovsk territory and Amur region to enable people there to exercise their right to vote, Itar-Tass said.
Around 4,500 people have the right to vote earlier in the Khabarovsk territory, said the local election commission.
Among the voters are meteorologists at mountain and taiga stations, reindeer breeders, hunters and residents in small settlements in the northern areas of the territory.
The vote also took place aboard vessels from the ports of Vanino and Sovetskaya Gavan, also in the country's far east region.
In the neighboring Amur Region, where elections to the regional legislature will take place together with the presidential elections, nearly 2,400 people are expected to participate in the early voting, said the regional election commission.
Around 200,000 people in Russia will cast their ballots earlier than the rest of the electorates.
More than 4 million U.S. dollars have been earmarked for the early voting in Russia's presidential elections, which is scheduled for March 2, according to the Central Elections Commission.
Some 74 polling stations are also available for voters living abroad and far from Russian diplomatic missions.
