Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic lodged on Saturday a strong protest against the European Union's decision to send its mission to Kosovo, the official Tanjug news agency reported.
"The Serbian government explicitly opposes the arrival of a European Union mission without a clear legal basis that can be provided only by the UN Security Council," Djelic said in a meeting with Slovenian Ambassador to Serbia Miroslav Luci.
The Serbian government considers this decision, taken outside the UN Security Council, illegal, Djelic told Luci whose country is now the current holder of the EU presidency.
The EU approved yesterday evening to send a 2000-strong police and judiciary mission to Kosovo, which Serbia opposes on the ground that it is tantamount to consenting to the UN Kosovo envoy Martin Ahtisarri's Kosovo status plan.
