Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura on Friday called on the international community to strengthen joint measures in dealing with problems concerning water and stressed the necessity to give swift support to developing nations on water management.
The problem of "water and sanitation" is a problem for the world and is closely related with a lot of issues such as poverty, education and sustainable development, Komura said when addressing a U.N.-hosted water symposium in Tokyo.
The minister said Japan is willing to share its expertise and technology, such as water supply and sewerage services, with all developing countries in order to help improve their access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
Japan is trying to take the lead in setting a framework for the global environmental protection cause as it will host the G-8 summit in Hokkaido in July. In different occasions, the Japanese government has brought up with its initiative calling for cutting global greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by the year 2050. Source: Xinhua
