U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday that the United States will implement reciprocal steps if Pyongyang moves towards denuclearization, South Korean officials said.

Rice made the remarks during her talks with Yu Myung-hwan, who was nominated as South Korean Foreign Minister by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and waits for parliamentary confirmation hearing, in Seoul, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported.

Rice said it is necessary for Seoul and Washington to cooperate in convincing Pyongyang to realize that denuclearization is the best way for it, Yonhap said.

Rice arrived here on Sunday to participate in Lee's inauguration ceremony Monday morning. She will travel to Beijing later Monday.
