A rocket fired by Taliban insurgents in militancy-hit Helmand province of southern Afghanistan have killed five civilians, a press release of U.S.-led Coalition forces said Wednesday.

"An insurgent rocket landed near a group of civilians in Helmand Province killing five and wounding one on February 25," it said.

The insurgent attack followed a successful five-day mission of combined Afghan and Coalition force in the Kajaki district to disrupt insurgent operations during which "several enemy fighters" were eliminated, the press release said.

The multi-national Coalition forces, with majority a 16,000-strong U.S. troops, are deployed in Afghanistan for fighting militants and ensuring security.
