Russian President Vladimir Putin urged Russians to vote in Sunday's presidential election, saying their support will be important for Russia's next president.

"The voice of each of you will be important in the March 2 election," he said in a a televised address on Friday.

After two consecutive four year terms, Putin will step down and he backs Deputy First Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev as his successor.

He has said he will take the No. 2 post as prime minister if Medvedev succeed.
