Fiji's interim Prime Minister and Military chief Commodore Frank Bainimarama said he will return the country to democratic rule early next year despite recent questions about his government's commitment, the PACNEWS reported on Friday.
He said general election, earmarked for March, 2009 will go ahead provided the People's Charter, which would outline how Fiji is to be governed, is in place, the Suva-based regional news agency reported.
Bainimarama also said the comments by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Glyn Davies that the U.S. cannot see a concrete timetable for the next elections was "naive and insulting."
"It is insulting to continue to answer that the elections will be held in March 2009," he said.
"It will be naive to think that election on its own will solve anything," he added. Source: Xinhua
