Islamic Hamas movement's spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri on Thursday denied that his movement is beefing up forces and weapons in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center said in a report published earlier in the day that Hamas has organized 20,000 armed forces and acquired longer-range rockets and advanced anti-tank weapons.

"The report is untrue and inaccurate," Abu Zuhri said, adding "Hamas movement is a movement of resistance that resists the occupation, and all what it has is a simple and humble kind of weapons."

The report also said that Iran and Syria supply Hamas with weapons, technical knowledge and training, adding that Hamas has smuggled 80 tons of explosives into the Gaza Strip since Hamas seized the coastal territory last June.

"This inaccurate and untrue report is part of Israeli media campaign that is organized by the Israeli occupation in order to find an excuse to carry out a new round of war against Hamas and against Gaza," said Abu Zuhri.

Hamas movement took control of the Gaza Strip in mid June last year after routing security forces loyal to moderate President Mahmoud Abbas in weeks of gun battles that left more than 100 people dead.

"Hamas movement is a movement of resistance that has a primitive kind of weapon and confront a state of occupation that owns nuclear and the most sophisticated kinds of weapons," he said.
