Chilean President Michelle Bachelet traveled to Puerto Montt city Friday to monitor emergency aid deliveries to people affected by the Chaiten volcano eruption.
Bachelet first visited the region a day after the volcano erupted on May 2 to coordinate the first batch of assistance to displaced people, the number already over 8,000.
She will meet Defense Minister Jose Goni, who is in charge of the emergency campaign at Puerto Montt city, and regional governor Sergio Galilea.
The Chaiten volcano has constantly spewed out gases and ashes, with sporadic powerful explosions.
The situation has forced an evacuation of people from within a 50-km radius of the volcano.
The displaced people have been temporarily relocated to other southern cities, such as Puerto Montt, Osorno and Castro, on Chiloe island.
Volcanic ashes have also affected seven Argentine provinces of Chubut, Rio Negro, Neuquen, La Pampa, southern Mendoza, southern San Luis, Buenos Aires. Source: Xinhua
