The Mexican Congress website was out of service for hours on Friday after being attacked by hackers who opposed the nation's oil industry privatization.

The hackers, who identified themselves as "Gob and Suckean of Argentina & Chile," broke into the website and added messages opposing the government's plan to privatize oil industry with spelling mistakes.

They told former Mexican presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador that it was an honor to be with him in his fight against the privatization of the nation's oil industry.

The hackers also requested Mexican President Felipe Calderon to maintain peace in the country and not exploit the people.

They left their email addresses, with the notification that the owner of the Congress website had changed.

Calderon proposed early April to the Mexican Senate an energy reform plan to open the country's state-run oil company Pemex to domestic and foreign investment.

His privatization plan was protested by the leftist parties and thousands of people, claiming what they want is an end of corruption, but not privatization of the industry.
