Zimbabwean journalists should safeguard the country's sovereignty and heritage, Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe Hashem Dajani has said.
Addressing trainee journalists at Harare Polytechnic Press club on Thursday, Dajani urged journalists to strive to report the truth about the Zimbabwean situation.
"This is your country and as journalists you need to be open about the situation in the country so that people understand what is going on as it contributes to the development of a prosperous Zimbabwe," he said.
He said journalists should not be used to push foreign agendas. Dajani said Zimbabwe and Palestine enjoy cordial relations that date back to the days of Zimbabwe's liberation struggle especially the years Palestine was led by late leader Yasser Arafat, who frequently visited the country.
"Zimbabwe is a friendly country to us and we care about what is going on in Zimbabwe. The western media have reported negatively on Zimbabwe like they have done on the situation in the Middle East. The situation in Middle East, blamed on religious conflicts, is actually a political issue which is being twisted by the Western media," he said.
