Cote d'Ivoire is set to host a meeting of the Group of 77 countries + China in the political capital of Yamoussoukro slated to take place from June 10 to 13, the country's foreign ministry has announced.
A delegation of G77 is currently in Cote d'Ivoire to "confirm to the Cote d'Ivoire authorities that the G77 + China Conference will take place as planned from June 10 to 13 in Yamoussoukro and review all the organizational aspects of the meeting," according to a statement issued by the foreign ministry on Thursday.
Participants at the meeting will reflect on the adoption of a common position of the G77 ahead of the next high-level United Nations conference on South-South cooperation scheduled for the first quarter of 2009, G77 executive secretary Mourad Ahmia was quoted as saying by the statement.
The launch of a G77 fund for humanitarian assistance, estimated at over 25 million U.S. dollars, is also on the agenda of the Yamoussoukro meeting, according to the same source.
The conference of the G77, the 12th of its kind, will be the first to be held on the African continent. The meeting is coming after the one that was held in Qatar in June 2005 and approved thirty projects for implementation. Source: Xinhua
