Tanzania have scored an away defeat in their efforts to qualify for the 2010 World Cup/African Cup of Nations as they were beaten by Cape Verde 1-0, according to the Tanzania Football Federation.
The away defeat put Tanzania in a difficult position in the four-team Group One of the African Zone qualifying tournament.
Cameroon have topped the group with two wins from as many matches while Cape Verde moved up to second place with one win against one defeat to Cameroon.
Tanzania place third on a better goal difference while Mauritius are at the bottom. The two teams each scored one draw and one defeat.
Things may become even more difficult for the Tanzanian team, known locally as the Taifa Stars (Stars of the Nation), as it host Cameroon on Saturday in Dar es Salaam.
A home draw may pump some morale back into the team that has never qualified for the World Cup.
