U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will pay a short visit to Bulgaria during a scheduled European tour, local media reports said on Wednesday.
Rice is expected to make a five-hour stopover in the country, the reports said, citing unnamed sources in Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry.
Rice will meet with Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev for talks and convey him a letter from U.S. President George W. Bush, the reports said.
Their meeting is expected to focus on the same topics Bush and Stanishev discussed in Washington last month, including energy, bilateral cooperation and peacekeeping missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Currently, Bulgaria has 155 military personnel in Iraq, 400 in Afghanistan and 38 in Kosovo.
They may also talk about the fight against organized crime and corruption and the U.S. missile defense system in eastern Europe.
Rice will also be awarded by President Georgi Parvanov with the Stara Planina (Old Mountain) Order, the country's highest civilian distinction, for her role in securing the release of the Bulgarian medics detained in Libya.
